Portugal based Jermaine Seoposenwe has been called back into the South Africa senior national women’s team.

The Sporting Braga sharpshooter has not played for her country since 2020 due to travel hitches that kept her in the European country.

Seoposenwe is one of nine foreign-based players that have made it into coach Desiree Ellis’ preliminary squad.

Ellis has assembled a preparatory 33-member squad to start preparing for the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for 2-23 July in Morocco.

Although she was named to face the Netherlands in a friendly, she also missed out on that match in which South Africa lost 5-1. Spain based Thembi Kgatlana, who is also on the squad, scored the consolation goal for Ellis’ side.

Another big name in the squad is Italy based midfielder, Refiloe Jane. The former Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies player had been out with an injury which also saw her miss the encounter

with the Oranjevrouwen in April.

Banyana will report for camp on Friday, 10 June in Johannesburg before Ellis announces her final team before the team departs for the tournament on 21 June.

South Africa were drawn in Group C with holders Nigeria, Burundi and neighbours Botswana. They will open their tournament against the Super Falcons on 4 July.
