Copper Queens to get more than $21,500 each if they win WAFCON 2022 title

Zambia will be the first team to arrive in Morocco for the Women Africa Cup of Nations. On June 15, with 17 days to go, the Copper Queens departed from the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport having their eyes set on “winning the tournament and booking a place at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup”, according to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).

The players will earn more than $21,500 each if they succeed in the seemingly daunting task of winning the Women’s AFCON title for the first time.

This will be their third appearance after 2014 and 2018. They failed to progress beyond the group stage in their previous appearances and have only one win to their name.

In Morocco, coach Bruce Mwape’s girls will be entitled to $3,000 bonus each for victories secured in the group stage, then a win in the quarter-final will earn them $3,500, $4,000 for the semi-final and $5,000 for a win in the final of the continental showpiece.

The team will play a series of friendlies in Morocco ahead of the July 2-23 tournament, one of which will see them go head-to-head with the hosts on 18 June at the Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.

The Copper Queens are in Group B alongside Cameroon, Tunisia and Togo. They will be based in Casablanca.
